Hallmark Illustrator, Lisa, received support from Maggie's in Yorkshire during her breast cancer journey. When charity nominations opened up, Lisa felt compelled to support people through their own journeys and illustrate six heartfelt cards for Maggie's.
Lisa received emotional and practical support from Maggie's in Yorkshire during her breast cancer journey, and following the loss of her mum and dad to cancer.
When employee charity nominations opened up at work, it was the perfect opportunity for Lisa to use her professional expertise in a specific and personal way to support people going through their own experiences of cancer.
Lisa says: "Some days I felt scared and uncertain, I didn't always feel positive, and I certainly didn't feel like a hero. I really wanted to share my personal understanding of diagnosis, treatment and beyond, whilst offering support to others.
"My family and friends were a huge support, along with cups of tea and the odd biscuit or three."
As an Illustrator, visually communicating with warmth and emotion is Lisa's job and she wanted to create something that could help people know what to say when perhaps they really don't.
Lisa adds: "Sometimes it's hard to know what to say and what to do.
"The result is a collection of cards, delivering their message with honesty, love and vulnerability, how people really speak, kind of like a heartfelt conversation.
"Maggie's has played a huge part in my journey, they were so supportive when I really needed it and I know they are there when I need them."
