An interview with our Chief Executive, Dame Laura Lee, has been broadcast to mark International Women’s Day on online radio station, Incapable Staircase.
Host Derek Francis, who is living with advanced cancer, chatted with Laura about being a nurse, how she met Maggie, the special warm welcome of our centres and ‘the humanity’ of our support staff.
Some of Laura’s favourite musical tracks were also played with Laura explaining why those songs are so special to her.
Derek, who was told he has two years to live at the start of 2020, said: “This radio show is all about making the most of the time I have left, raising awareness of cancer and of the support Maggie’s offers.
“I was absolutely delighted to have Laura on the show, we had a wonderful chat and the response we have had on social media has been fantastic. I can’t wait to have someone else from Maggie’s on the show soon.”
During the interview, Derek also speaks about his own diagnosis, his experience of visiting Maggie’s Yorkshire and how Maggie’s Edinburgh supported a close friend through the last three years of his life.
The show has already featured Derek interviewing Miriam Margolyes as well as close friends, Corrie’s Sue Devaney and the incomparable Su Pollard. Next month he is welcoming Broadway legend Betty Buckley.
