Maggie’s comes to Middlesbrough

Thursday 13 February 2025

Her Majesty The Queen, and our CEO Dame Laura Lee DBE, with representatives of NHS and key donors at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Maggie’s and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are working in partnership to bring Maggie’s cancer support to Middlesbrough.

We will join forces with the Trinity Holistic Centre in the grounds of James Cook University Hospital, at the invitation of South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.

We will take over the centre and bring our professional programme of support to the people accessing care from the Trust.

Her Majesty The Queen, President of Maggie’s since 2008, heard about the plans when she met Dame Laura Lee, our Chief Executive, at Middlesbrough Town Hall today.

The Queen also met Professor Derek Bell OBE, group chair for University Hospital Tees and Stacey Hunter, CEO for University Hospital Tees, and Jonathan Ferguson, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon for South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Bringing Maggie's to Middlesbrough

Dame Laura Lee said:

“Her Majesty The Queen is incredibly supportive of our work – it was wonderful to share the news that we are now able to bring Maggie’s to Middlesbrough.

“We are looking forward to joining forces with the Trinity Holistic Centre to complement their work and deliver the best possible support for people living with cancer and their friends and families.

"We know the difference this can make – whether that is getting people ready for their cancer treatment, helping them with potential side-effects, supporting them after treatment, providing benefits advice or when living with advanced cancer.

"We are glad to have this opportunity to bring our support to Teesside and surrounding areas.”

Delivering much-needed services

Stacey Hunter, CEO of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (part of University Hospital Tees) said:

"We are delighted that working in partnership with Maggie’s means we can secure the future of the cancer information and support services provided by Trinity Holistic Centre.

"Over the last few years securing sufficient funds to deliver the much-needed services of Trinity Holistic Centre has been a challenge."
