We are delighted to announce that Stuart Gulliver has been appointed as our new Chairman.
Stuart, who has served on our Board of Directors for three years, takes over from outgoing Chairman Alan Eisner.
“I am honoured to be appointed the new Chairman of Maggie’s and I am greatly looking forward to working more closely with Dame Laura Lee, my fellow board members and the rest of the organisation to build on the work of the last 25 years.
"By continuing to work together my hope is that Maggie’s will continue to grow, allowing as many people living with cancer as possible to benefit from Maggie’s professional support. Support, I know, which is needed more than ever before as we continue to deal with the impact of the coronavirus crisis.”
Stuart spent 38 years working for HSBC and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited after joining them as a graduate, holding the position of HSBC’s Group Chief Executive Officer from 2011 to 2018. He was also Chairman of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited during the same time.
Before then Stuart was Chairman of HSBC Europe, Middle East, and the Global Businesses of HSBC Holdings plc. He was appointed Chief Executive of Global Banking and Markets businesses in May 2006 and also served as Chairman of HSBC France, Deputy Chairman of Trinkaus & Burkhardt AG.
Stuart is currently a board member of Jardine Matheson, The Hong Kong Airport Authority, The Saudi British Bank and The Olayan Group.
Our Chief Executive Dame Laura Lee said, “We are delighted to appoint Stuart as our new Chairman. He has brought a huge amount of experience and expertise to our board since he joined in 2018, and I know he will be a huge asset as Chairman in helping ensure we can reach as many people living with cancer as possible.
"I am greatly looking forward to working more closely with Stuart and building on the work of our outgoing Chairman, Alan Eisner, who has brought so much to Maggie’s over his 10 years as a vital member of our Board of Directors and three years as our Chairman.”
Alan said, “Being Maggie’s Chairman has been incredibly rewarding, but more importantly it has been a very gratifying experience to be part of an organisation which provides such professional support for people living with cancer, and to see the leadership of Maggie’s Chief Executive, Dame Laura Lee. And especially during the coronavirus crisis when Maggie’s professional and expert support has been needed more than ever before. I will continue to look on with interest as Maggie’s continues to grow and reach more people in the future.”
